Broken Column

    Portland Broken Column

When the Quarrymen were founded it was decided that we would make the Broken Column Association our main fundraising recipient.

As there are three branches of the Broken Column in Dorset we decided to give each branch, Wimborne, Poole and Portland £250 each to support any upcoming events or activities.

It was at the Portland cheque presentation that Brian Tritton was asked to give a talk to them at their September meeting to which he agreed.

So on Monday the 11th of September 2023 both Brian and Tony Pereira attended Portland Lodge to give a talk about the Widows Sons. Brian spoke about how we were formed and what our aims were and also how much money we have already raised for charities both nationally and locally. He also with Tony’s help explained all the patches on the Quarrymen’s regalia.

After Brian had finished his presentation, Tony then explained the DocBike and Yeovil Freewheelers Blood Bikes patches.

This talk was well received by all in attendance which wrapped up in a round of applause. The ladies even provided us with tea, coffee, biscuits and free raffle tickets.

Although Brian and Tony were not expecting any payment from this talk, the Portland Broken Column Association has made £50 donation towards the Quarrymen’s current fundraising for the Lifelites charity who bring joy to children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

On behalf of the President, his officers and members of the Quarrymen I would like to wish the Broken Column Association well and we hope you enjoy your upcoming trip.

    Poole Broken Column

Further to the presentation at Portland, Phil and Chick also presented information the same talk to the ladies of the Poole Broken Column on Thursday the 28th of September.

In addition to the talk we were able to engage with the ladies regarding our charity events and our planned events for Christmas and beyond. The applause was quite humbling for the two presenters.

The ladies were quite taken aback by the amount we do and very involved afterwards with the questions. So much so that our 30 minute presentation lasted well over an hour.
