Widows Sons AGM
With the new year now getting up and running the Widows Sons held their National AGM up in Derby on the weekend of the 25th of February 2023. The purpose of this meeting was to bring all chapters from all over the UK together in one place to discuss the way forward for the year ahead and beyond.
Quarrymen Vice President and Secretary travelled up to Derby on Friday. They were warmly welcomed and introduced to the other Presidents, Vice Presidents and Secretaries of the other chapters including the officers of the Widows Sons.
Both Quarrymen Vice President and Secretary were invited to go for a social drink with the others on friday night when they arrived which they both happily accepted.
All day Saturday we were in the meeting only breaking for lunch. At this meeting we voted in the officers of the Widows Sons for the upcoming year and discussed various ideas which will take the Widows Sons forward in the coming years. There are now 37 Widows Chapters around the UK, also including our Chapters in Portugal, Gibraltar and the Netherlands.
The Chairman of the Widows Sons also updated all in attendance about the amount of money we have raised so far for the charity ‘Lifelites’. The Widows Sons have pledged to raise £20,000 over four years for Lifelites, however they have nearly reached this target within a year so it has been decided that we will continue to raise funds for the remaining three years to honour our four year fundraising commitment to Lifelites who do a fantastic job bringing joy to children and young people with life-limiting conditions.

Also at this meeting it was decided that Region 7 of the Widows Sons which consists of the Quarrymen, Stonecutters, Pilgrims, Wyvern and the new Gloucester & Bristol Chapters will host the 2024 Nation Rally. Planning for this is well under way already and all in Region 7 look forward to welcoming our brothers from the rest of the Widows Sons down to the South West of England.
Once the meeting came to an end and now with even more Widows Sons members from around the country more socialising was necessary so naturally the bar was the best place for this until our superb Indian meal on Saturday night which was just down the road from the hotel we were staying at. Again we all had a great time which then resulted in some people heading off to a local pub while others decided to get a good night’s sleep before their long drives back home.
Sunday morning then saw everyone say their goodbyes until our next meeting / National Rally.
Finally on behalf of the Quarrymen I would like to thank all the Widows Sons officers and all chapters in attendance for giving the Quarrymen and the other new Chapters such a warm and friendly welcome. We look forward to helping out where we can and meeting up with you all whether it is on ride outs, meetings or another event.
