No sooner have we been to one lodge than we are out, the very next night, to another. Whilst I am still getting back into my flow with writing these posts I will keep it simple. With 4 founding members consisting of 2 officers, one full Widows Son and 1 cornerstone, we attended this meeting for a very special reason.
Jon, one of our cornerstones, is pretty new to the craft but his father, Edgar Vickers, was 62 years a mason when he passed away late last year. Jon showed me all of his fathers masonic kit which included a 50 year certificate and his grand lodge certificate (half in Latin it is that old). I noticed there was no 60 certificate though. Reaching out in the background, I contacted the lodge secretary and found that the certificate had never been presented.
With a lot of wrangling we managed to get a framed certificate sorted (mostly thanks to the lodge secretary) and this was presented to Jon at the lodge meeting as a total surprise to him. Clearly very emotional but, with quarrymen and lodge friends to support him, Jon was able to have an awesome evening at his fathers lodge.
A surprise to both Jon and I was to see the son of a friend and former work colleague be the EA being passed to the 2nd degree. Bonus.
We are looking forward to being out a lot more and there is already another small group of Quarrymen heading to Swanage next week.
Visiting is the lifeblood of the craft and the Quarrymen love to visit each others lodges almost as much as we love the feeling of riding our bikes.
